MADRID, 10 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Manchester United beat Charlton Athletic, from the English third division, (3-0) to advance to the semifinals of the Carabao Cup, the English League Cup, while Newcastle did the same (2-0) against Leicester, in the other match of the quarterfinals played this Tuesday.
The team led by Erik ten Hag defeated the modest Charlton with suffering, who put up more resistance than expected. Although the Brazilian Antony opened the scoring at the start of the first half, after hitting a cross shot, it wasn’t until 90′ when Marcus Rashford closed the game definitively, with two goals in just five minutes.
With this victory the ‘Red Devils’ add their eighth consecutive victory among all competitions and extend their state of grace after getting the pass to the fourth round of the FA Cup last Friday, a great moment of form to arrive with high morale to the Manchester derby next Saturday.
Meanwhile, Newcastle recovered from their cup elimination last Saturday against Sheffield Wednesday, with a victory against Leicester City, thanks to goals from Burn and Joelinton in the second half. The ‘Magpies’ were once again a reliable team as demonstrated by their third position in the Premier League, where they have accumulated only one defeat, the one harvested on August 31 against Liverpool (2-1).
