Manchester City win fifth trophy of 2023 as Julian Alvarez and Phil Foden inspire Club World Cup victory over Fluminense

Manchester City beats Fluminense to win the Club World Cup, giving them their fifth title of 2023. Julian Alvarez or Phil Foden were key in the win.

City beat the Japanese team Urawa Red Diamonds 3-0 on Tuesday to advance to the final, where they will play Fluminense from Brazil.

The winners of the Copa Libertadores put Marcelo, a former Real Madrid star, in their starting XI.

The 35-year-old stopped the game but gave the ball to City. Nathan Ake smacked the post for City before Alvarez scored from the rebound.

The Argentinian did it in just 40 seconds, giving the triple winners the greatest possible start.

There were rules that said Erling Haaland couldn’t play in the game, so Alvarez started up front for City towards Fluminense.

So far this season, the 23-year-old has scored nine goals across all competitions. He has had a very good year.

In December of last year, he won the World Cup with Argentina. Then, with City, he won the Premier League, the Champions League, and the FA Cup.

The triple winners from last season doubled the advantage in the 27th minute when Foden’s shot hit Nino and went in.

After beating Fluminense 4-0 to win the Club World Cup for the first time on Friday, Pep Guardiola talked about how proud he was of his team.

The club had already won the Champions League, the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the European Super Cup in 2023. This was their fifth prize of the year.

It only took Julian Alvarez 40 seconds to start the rout. He set up another goal for Phil Foden and then sealed the lopsided win in the last few minutes. City also scored an own goal, which helped them beat their Brazilian opponents.

Guardiola, the manager of City, said on the club’s website, “I am so proud of this club.” He had won the game three times before. The things we’ve done are truly impressive.

“To win this trophy, we have to be the strongest squad in the world. Our players, coaches, and staff work hard every day to make this happen.”

“As a manager, I’m most proud of the fact that we’re always there.” We will be back to fight to the next trophy no matter how many we win or what trophies we take home.

“Winning the treble was amazing, but winning two more trophies and now having these five significant titles shows how special this team, club, and fans are.”

“Even other English teams have never done it, and we are going to forever remember how great it was to work together.” Foden also called it an important night in the club’s history, since his cross led to his own goal.

The England defender told TNT Sports, “We’re not used to fighting in this heat, so it was tough, but we’re happy with the result.” We’re done with the “world.”

“The club needs this so badly. We’ve won it once before. We’re thrilled, and it’s a huge win for the club. Foden thought that Fluminense, who won the Copa Libertadores, made things hard for City.

“I couldn’t believe it,” he said. “Let them play the way they do.” They play so well with short passes, which I love. They’re a great team that made it hard, but I thought the boys showed not only skill but also heart and drive.

An injury to midfielder Rodri from a bad tackle by Fluminense’s Alexsander was the biggest worry for City. However, Rodri, who walked off in the 74th minute, said it wasn’t serious.
