A man has been found guilty of stealing valuable watches from British cyclist Mark Cavendish and his wife Peta in an assault in which a Rambo knife was held to the athlete’s neck.
The intruders, wearing ski masks, broke into Cavendish’s home while he was sleeping upstairs with his wife at their home in Ongar, Essex, a trial at Chelmsford Crown Court said.
Peta Cavendish said she had covered her three-year-old son, who was also in bed, with the duvet so the boy couldn’t see what was happening.
Two Richard Mille watches, valued at 400,000 pounds – more than 455,000 euros – and 300,000 pounds – more than 341,000 euros – were among the objects stolen in the early morning assault on November 27, 2021.
Romario Henry, 31, from south-east London, denied two counts of robbery but was convicted on both counts with a majority verdict of 10 jurors to 2 after 14 hours and 35 minutes of deliberation. Co-defendant Oludewa Okorosobo, 28, from south London, denied two counts of robbery and was acquitted by the jury.
