Magnus Cort debuts in the Giro in an ‘aquatic’ stage

The Dane joins the cycling club with victories in Tour, Giro and Vuelta

MADRID, 16 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Danish cyclist Magnus Cort (EF Education-EasyPost) won the tenth stage of the Giro d’Italia on Tuesday, played between Scandiano and Viareggio over 196 kilometers, by beating his two escape companions in a placid sprint for him, on a day marked by by water, cold and falls.

Magnus Cort joined a previously formed breakaway, almost at the start, and finally reached the finish line by three. The Dane, a sprint specialist, took action and waited for the right moment to win clearly, driving Derek Gee (Israel – Premier Tech), second, and Alessandro De Marchi (Team Jayco AlUla), third, to despair.

The group of favourites, with the new ‘pink jersey’ Geraint Thomas (INEOS Grenadiers), came close to the escaped trio. After the withdrawal of previous leader Remco Evenepoel due to coronavirus, among many other infected who did not start, this stage left more victims, such as Aleksandr Vlasov (BORA-hansgrohe), who was sixth overall and abandoned during the stage.
