Athletic gave a time in Matapiñonera to a Madrid CFF who took advantage of their best moments to get ahead on the scoreboard before the break, a goal from Valeria. Bilbao's reaction to a consistent white team came in the second half, but it did not translate into either. The red and white Lucia did manage to beat Paola Ulloa with ten minutes to go, but the referee, in clear error, invalidated the action for a non-existent offside.
The dynamics of both contestants were clearly reflected throughout this meeting. The locals added the sixth victory in their last seven meetings. The visitors, who came from being reunited with the triumph, have not just come out of the complicated situation in which they are immersed.
White, without their scorer Valeria, who had to be removed on a stretcher after Garazi's entry, equaled second-placed Levante in the table. The rojiblancas, on the other hand, continue without leaving the danger zone. This time they conceded a goal very close to the break without even having finished between the three sticks.
Madrid CFF faced this league challenge with practically the same team that had drawn in Donostia. The entry of Araujo by Lucía was the only game change in the team led by Óscar Fernández. White settled with a 1-4-2-3-1 system.
Iraia, for his part, made four changes to the line-up with which he started on Sunday in Lezama against Espanyol. Garazi, Moraza, Istillart and Yulema entered through Naroa, Eunate, Monente and María Díaz. The lionesses started with a 1-4-1-4-1 that allowed them to control the local arrivals without major problems, but that, as a counterpoint, hardly gave them options to project themselves in front of Paola Ulloa's goal.
Priscila and Geyce took the leading role in the game until very close to halftime. An error in the control of Garazi allowed his pair, the Brazilian forward Geyce, to finish point-blank against De la Nava and Valeria to open the scoring by taking advantage of the deflection of the Athletic goalkeeper. This 1-0 came with only two minutes remaining.
The red-and-white coach started the second half with three changes in her ranks. Eunate, Monente and María Díaz made an appearance on the Bilbao side. The lionesses thus reinforced both bands with María Díaz and Eunate as extreme.
Another Garazi error was about to allow Geyse to make it 2-0, but the rojiblanca center-back was in charge on two occasions to prevent, under sticks, that the ball reached the back of the net. The scorer Valeria had to retire on a stretcher minutes later after suffering a hard tackle from Garazi, which the referee ended with a yellow.
Athletic improved with the changes and little by little they took over the situation against an increasingly withdrawn Madrid. Bilbao's momentum gave way to a series of set pieces that the locals knew how to defend with force. Lucía, after a great pass through Unzué's hole, managed to beat Ulloa, but the referee decreed a non-existent offside. The scoreboard did not move any more, but the uncertainty lasted until after the 96th minute.
