Madrid brings together sport and sustainability at the II Nationale-Nederlanden Plogging Tour on May 22

MADRID, 21 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

On May 22, Madrid will host the second edition of the ‘Nationale Nederlanden Plogging Tour’, the initiative that under the slogan ‘Play sports for the planet’ brings together outdoor activities to promote health, equality and cooperation, while taking care of the environment and natural conservation of towns and cities.

Coinciding with the World Day for Biological Diversity, this day, which has the collaboration of the Madrid City Council through the Delegated Area of ​​Sport, supposes, as explained by its delegate, Sofía Miranda, “a way of raising awareness, materializing and combining “The capital’s commitment to the environment and sport. “Practices like Plogging allow future generations to be proud of our actions and decisions,” Miranda added.

During the day of the ‘Nationale-Nederlanden Plogging Tour’, participants of all ages and levels will be able to take different routes, between two and eleven kilometers, through the Parque del Oeste and Ciudad Universitaria, combining physical and sports activity at different intensities, with the recovery of the environment through the removal of waste found along the way.

DIY workshops (Do it Yourself – ‘Do it yourself’), art, recycling, games for the little ones, dance, sports exhibitions or an environmental education area through Virtual Reality are part of the content of the experience that will take place departure and arrival area, which will be located at the entrance to Parque del Oeste, in front of the Moncloa interchange.

Madrid, which holds the title of World Capital of Sport 2022, thus intends to become a benchmark in the promotion of ‘Sport with purpose’, the activity that, through collaboration, helps to improve communities, while at the same time valuing the conservation of the natural heritage, green areas, parks and gardens of the city.

Plogging Tour is the tour that combines sport and conservation of the natural heritage of towns and cities in Europe. In Spain, it collaborates with the objective of promoting sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) through sport and participatory experiences, where respect for others and for nature are combined, adding awareness to the performance of the exercise.

Through this activity, since 2019 and thanks to citizen participation and the collaboration of eleven Spanish municipalities, 23,500 kilos of waste have been recovered.
