Maayouf, Salpeter, Yeshaneh and Amebaw will compete for the women's victory in the San Silvestre Vallecana

MADRID, 29 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish-Moroccan Majida Maayouf, the Israeli Lonah Salpeter and the Ethiopians Ababel Yeshaneh and Likina Amebaw will be some of the big names who seem destined to fight for victory in the women's race of the Nationale-Nederlanden San Silvestre Vallecana this Sunday, 31 December.

Maayouf, recently naturalized Spanish, arrives in the capital ready to show her strength in the 10K after having broken the Spanish marathon record in Valencia with a spectacular 2:21:27, almost five minutes better than the previous one held by Marta Galimany.

Maayouf will be one of the best assets to end the drought of national victories in this event, which dates back to 2008 with Marta Domínguez, who also holds the best record, the 31:35 with which she won in 2003 and which will be another goal of the marathon.

Along with her, and in addition to the previously confirmed Marta Galimany, Fátima Azzahara Ouhaddou, Laura Luengo, Laura Méndez and Irene Pelayo, the national women's 'army' will also once again feature Naima Ait Alibou, who was fifth in the last edition with a time of 32:26.

In terms of international participation, there are several that stand out, such as the Israeli Lonah Salpeter, from the NN Running Team and third in 2021, who arrives after having shone in the marathon with victories in Tokyo, second place in New York, third in Boston and World Cup bronze in 2022.

There will also be the Ethiopians Ababel Yeshaneh, a good marathon runner as demonstrated by her second places in Chicago and Boston, and Likina Amebaw, based in Ávila, fourth in 2021 and who arrives in great shape at the end of the year due to her great campaign in the field. through with triumphs in Soria, Alcobendas or Cantimpalos.

Other high-level athletes who will seek to take center stage in 'la Vallecana' will be the 18-year-old Ethiopian Asmarech Anlay, African junior champion in the 3,000 meters, or the French Giovanna Epis, twelfth in the World Cup in Budapest this summer.
