With a resounding win, away from home and against Lorient (1-4), Lyon rejoined the race for European positions in French Ligue 1.
In the match that opened matchday 27, Lyon showed signs of improvement. He took advantage of his rival’s depression, on the brink of relegation, to rediscover victory after a draw and a loss in a row.
The clash at the Stade du Moustoir was shaken from the start with Romain Faivre’s goal after six minutes after receiving a ball from Lucas Paquetá. Before reaching half an hour he already signed the second, a great heel goal from Moussa Dembélé to complete a pass from Emerson Palmieri.
Christopher Pelissier’s team seemed to react, closing the gap in the 58th minute. A corner taken by Enzo Le Fee was deflected by Leo Petrot to the near post and Nigerian Tarem Moffi beat Anthony Lopes to close the gap.
But it did not take a minute for Lyon to widen the lead again thanks to Cameroonian Karl Toko Ekambi after receiving the ball from Moussa Dembélé. And with a quarter of an hour to go, it was Romain Faivre who rounded off the visiting victory with a lob after a cross from Houssem Aouar. Faivre scored his first two goals since joining Lyon from Brest in January.
Lyon is sixth in the standings, two points behind Strasbourg, which marks the European zone. At the same distance is the Lorient (16º) from the descent.
