The Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku has signed with AS Roma until June 2024, on loan from English Chelsea, for which he will return to Serie A for another year, coinciding again with the Portuguese coach José Mourinho, after passing the previous season at Inter Milan, according to a statement.
“It’s nice to know that today I am part of it. I recently had the opportunity to speak with the owners, and I was impressed by their ambition. Now we must work, be humble and grow game by game. For my part, I can’t wait to be available of my teammates both on and off the pitch”, declared the Belgian in statements published by his new team.
Lukaku has played 589 games in his professional career, in which he has scored 280 goals and has distributed 93 assists in his seasons in the Belgian league, the Premier League and Serie A.
The striker has an extensive record that includes the Belgian championship with Anderlecht, the FA Cup and the Club World Cup with Chelsea and also the Scudetto, the Italian Cup and the Italian Super Cup with Inter Milan.
The general director of Football for Roma, Tiago Pinto, was very satisfied with an arrival that brings “more experience, professionalism and desire to win”. “All our decisions are focused on increasing the competitiveness of the squad and it fills us with pride to see the fans receive Romelu with such emotion,” he concluded.
Thus, Roma signs Lukaku for this season on loan, in an attack that until now only included Paulo Dybala and Andrea Belotti. In addition, he will be under the command of Mourinho, the coach with whom he already met at Manchester United between 2017 and 2019.
