Luis Medina, closer to the bench: the judge of the ‘Mask Case’ proposes to prosecute the businessman for fraud

Bad news for the businessman, investigated together with his partner for the sale of medical supplies in the midst of a pandemic Covid-19 al City of Madrid. The judge of the so-called ‘Mascarillas case’, Adolfo Carretero, has proposed to try Louis Medina y Alberto Luceno for an alleged aggravated fraud and falsification of a commercial document, crimes to which the second adds a tax offense and another of falsification of a public document.

The magistrate has concluded the investigation process this Monday and proposes to prosecute the son of Naty Abascal, who could face between six months and three years in prison. Between March and April 2020, Medina and Luceño pocketed almost six million euros in commissions with the sale of sanitary material to the Madrid city council. He was in charge of contacting the person in charge of the town hall while his partner took charge of the negotiation, exchanging several emails with the subject ‘Pa la saca’.

The magistrate maintains that both concealed their “no experience in sanitary material issues” and also “they had inflated the price of the contracts” of masks, gloves and tests by 60, 81 and 71% respectively, “because of the high commissions that they took”. According to the judge, both “took advantage of the urgent need” of the City Council to obtain sanitary material and “hatched up a plan to obtain, with the excuse of altruism, the greatest possible economic benefit at the expense of the municipal treasury.” The “main manager of the plan” was Luceño, says the judge, although Medina used “his status as a public and famous figure” to carry out his actions and act “outside” the official procedure and “with a manifest advantage” over other competitors.

Luis Medina pocketed a million euros for the operation, with which he bought the sailboat to navigate the waters of the Mediterranean and which was seized when the investigation began. Luceño entered more than five million.

These will be difficult months for the businessman, who has the support of his family and also that of his partner. The son of the late Duke of Feria began a sentimental relationship last December. Her name is Clara and she is the coordinator of the Comprehensive Prostate Center.
