The UEFA Executive Committee has appointed Luis Medina Cantalejo, chairman of the Royal Spanish Football Federation’s Technical Committee of Referees, as a new member of UEFA’s Refereeing Development Panel for the next four years.
This analysis group is made up of expert former referees, who are still active in the development of refereeing in UEFA’s member associations. Its main functions include advising on the education and development of the referees of the member federations and the unification of criteria regarding the application and interpretation of the Laws of the Game.
Luis Medina Cantalejo debuted in 1988 in the First Division completing up to 11 seasons in the elite. In 2009 he left active arbitration directing the Copa del Rey and UEFA finals. He also officiated up to four matches at the 2006 World Cup where he also acted as the fourth official in the final.
Since November 2021, she has been in charge of the RFEF Referees Technical Committee, which has recently achieved the professionalization of the First Division referees and assistant referees, setting the course for the rest of the European federations.
