Luis Fernandez is running for the French Football Federation

Recovered from the coronavirus, Luis Fernandez has been able to reflect during confinement. The former player and former coach of Real Betis among others has granted an interview to L'Equipe in which he has been able to confirm that he will present a candidacy (which he will not lead as head of the list) for the presidency of the French Football Federation with the aim of saving French football.

“I was able to reflect during the confinement with the generation of 1984 (champion of the Eurocopa) and of 1998 (Champion of the World) to put together a project. French football must be reorganized which is wrong right now. My goal is to bring together both generations to obtain a common project, “he said.

“Players like Amoros, Giresse, Tigana, Barthez, Boghossian, Petit, Pirés, Deschamps, Vieira or Zidane they want to help me. I said to them: boys, we cannot continue like this, we have to stand for the next French football elections, “he stressed to the French newspaper.

The main reason for the presentation of Luis Fernandez's candidacy is his disagreements with the decisions of the FFF in recent years. He considers that Noël Le Graet, the Federation's top president, has acted to favor his personal interest and not to seek a consensus with those who did not agree in his latest actions.

“All the great teams call their history to strengthen themselves. In France we don't do something like that. Marseille, for example, is looking for leaders who have nothing to do with its history. Why not look for those who won the 1993 Champions League? Fans also do a lot, a club without fans is nothing. Why are they not integrated into the Board of Directors? “Finally, Luis Fernández said he wants to bring together a select group of 8-10 former players to strengthen the candidacy.
