Luis Enrique, new PSG coach until 2025

MADRID, 5 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Former Spanish soccer coach Luis Enrique Martínez, 53, is the new coach of Paris Saint-Germain for the next two seasons, replacing Christophe Galtier, the Parisian club announced in a statement on Wednesday.

Luis Enrique Martínez was a player with Sporting de Gijón (1989-1992), Real Madrid (1992-1996) and FC Barcelona (1996-2004). Four years after hanging up his boots, he took over as coach of the FC Barcelona subsidiary (2008-2011) before leading Roma (2011-12).

After occupying the Celta bench (2013-14), the Asturian coach coached FC Barcelona since 2014. In the 2014-15 season, he achieved a historic treble by winning the Champions League-Liga-Copa del Rey, completed, a few months later, with the Super Cup and the Club World Cup. His adventure with FC Barcelona ended in 2017, after winning another league title (2016) and two Copas del Rey (2016 and 2017).


Subsequently, Luis Enrique led the Spanish team from July 2018 to June 2019, and from November 2019 to December 2022. With ‘La Roja’, he reached the Euro 2020 semifinals and the Nations League final. (2021). He was FIFA’s Best Coach of 2015.

“I am very happy to arrive in Paris to live a new experience. It is very exciting to meet new people, live in this city, learn a new language and, above all, train PSG,” he told the official PSG media.
