MADRID, 22 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) already has the approval of its Management Committee to be able to execute the clause in the contract of men's national coach Luis de la Fuente and renew it until 2026.
“The Managing Commission of the RFEF has approved, in its session this Thursday, to authorize the bodies of the Federation to exercise the renewal clause included in the contract of the national coach, Luis de la Fuente,” said the federative body in a release.
The RFEF recalled that this action “will allow the expansion of the relationship between both parties until 2026”, so the Riojan coach could lead the 'Red' in the next World Cup to be held in Canada, Mexico and the United States.
“The Management Commission considers that the renewal of De la Fuente is a necessary step for the national team and for the institution that directs football in Spain, by providing stability to the national team in preparation for the Euro Cup, which will begin next month of June,” he said.
Luis de la Fuente accepted the position of Absolute coach after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and replaced Luis Enrique Martínez until June 30, 2024, 'promoting' from the U-21 with which he had been proclaimed European champion in 2019 and after also having led the national team that achieved Olympic silver at the Tokyo Games.
The coach from Haro, 62 years old and trained in the lower categories of the RFEF, achieved the objective of qualifying the 'Roja' for the final phase of the Euro Cup and achieving the first title in more than a decade with the conquest of the Nations League 2022-2023 by beating Croatia after a penalty shootout.
