Lorenzo Santolino says goodbye to the Dakar due to a mechanical problem

MADRID, 7 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish pilot Lorenzo Santolino (Sherco) has said goodbye to the Dakar Rally after suffering a mechanical problem on his motorcycle during the second stage, 655 kilometers between Al Henakiyah and Al Duwadimi.

The man from Salamanca, who was seventh in the general motorcycle classification, was stopped at kilometer 15 due to a breakdown of his motorcycle, and despite all attempts to repair it, he was forced to abandon the race. With this, he follows in the footsteps of his compatriot Tosha Schareina, who also had to retire on Saturday.

“The Dakar is over for me. At kilometer 15 of the second stage I had a technical problem and I couldn't repair it. I waited for the organization's assistance to come, the helicopter picked me up and I'm waiting to return to the next one. bivouac. It's a shame because I think it was a good year, the level of the bike is good and I think I was in a good physical and experience moment,” Santolino said.

In addition, he regretted his luck on a day in which “the terrain that presented itself was favorable.” “Yesterday I ran calmly knowing that the Dakar was long and even so we were well placed. It is a shame not to be able to take advantage of this Dakar to get a good result. The team deserved it for all the work and effort put in to get here. I am a little surprised, I don't really know what happened, we have done a lot of kilometers this year and everything had gone well,” he concluded.
