Lorenzo, Biaggi and Anderson, new ‘MotoGP Legends’

MADRID, Jan. 17 (SportsFinding) –

The Spanish rider Jorge Lorenzo, the Italian Max Biaggi and the New Zealander Hugh Anderson, all of them multi-champions of the world of motorcycling, will receive in this 2020 season their condition of 'Legends'.

As reported on Friday 'motogp.com', the Balearic, five times world champion, three in MotoGP and two in 250cc, will enter the Hall of Fame Circuit Jerez-Angel Nieto, a route that already has a curve with its Name.

“Being named 'MotoGP Legend' makes me extremely happy. I must say that when I started in this world the most I aspired to was to participate in the World Cup, and get to win races and then five championships was something that exceeded my expectations, and now being 'Legend' is something even harder to achieve, “Lorenzo celebrated on the championship website.

For the Mallorcan, this distinction “means that, apart from the titles, you have left a mark on the people and the long history of this sport.” “I thank Dorna and the FIM for their support during all these years and for including me in this select group of pilots,” he said.

For his part, Max Biaggi, 250cc world champion and double Superbike world champion, will enter the Hall of Fame of the Italian Mugello circuit. “I am happy that my legacy is always remembered and it is a pride that this recognition is still made today for so many years of hard work. I would like to thank all those who decided to give me this honor,” he said.

Finally, he will also be named 'Legend', on a date yet to be determined, Hugh Anderson, winner in 1963 of the 50 and 125cc titles and subsequently add one of each class in 1964 and 1965 respectively. “It is gratifying that, after all this time, the modern world has not forgotten the past and pilots of a very different era still have some value. It is important that the history of our sport be recognized at the highest level,” he confessed.

The three join a long list of 'MotoGP Legends' such as Giacomo Agostini, Mick Doohan, Geoff Duke, Wayne Gardner, Mike Hailwood, Daijiro Kato, Eddie Lawson, Anton Mang, Angel Nieto, Wayne Rainey, Phil Read, Jim Redman, Kenny Roberts, Jarno Saarinen, Kevin Schwantz, Barry Sheene, Marco Simoncelli, Freddie Spencer, Casey Stoner, John Surtees, Carlo Ubbiali, Alex Crivillé, Franco Uncini, Marco Lucchinelli, Randy Mamola, Kork Ballington, Dani Pedrosa, Stefan Dörflinger, Jorge Martínez Aspar and Nicky Hayden.
