Lorena: “The objective of Madrid is to win titles, but we are not obsessed”

Lorena Navarro (Madrid, November 11, 2000) is experiencing one of her sweetest moments as a professional. The Real Madrid footballer has made the most of her opportunity in the white eleven to become the team leader on the field and continues to knock on the National Team’s doors. With the new Sub-23, the Madrilenian tries to show her best version to arrive one day under the command of Jorge Vilda. However, it is one of the pearls of the Spanish quarry. With the U-17 he won the Eurocup, won two runners-up, got two silvers and was a Golden Boot in the continental championship. In addition to lifting the Golden Boot in the World Cup in the category, with which he won the bronze. At 20, she acts like a veteran and is capable of leading a whole Real Madrid. Her small figure (1.51 in height) and apparently fragile hides a winner capable of fighting in hand-to-hand with anyone. It never hides. That is why fate has wanted her name to go down in the history of Real Madrid as the first scorer in the Champions League. In the concentration of the Sub-23 he speaks with Diario AS

-Again with the National Team, how do you experience these concentrations?

-I had been in the U-20 and in the last of the U-23. It is always a joy that the National Team calls you and represents your country for all that it means and I am very happy to be here. We always come super excited. The ultimate goal is always to reach the absolute and fulfill a dream. We have had two friendlies and we are focused on making a good group and good feelings.

-A newly created category such as the U-23, do you think it was important to have this rung between the U-20 and the absolute?

“There was a lot of jump from U-20 to senior. I think they have done very well in creating this U-23.”

-Yes, in the end there was a lot of jump from Sub-20 to the absolute. I think they have done very well in creating this U-23 so that the jump is not so great and we are all very prepared.

-You come to this concentration in a sweet moment, can it be the best, so far, of your professional career?

-Could be. I am surrounded by better players every time. They are all very top personally and soccer. In the club where I am, it is difficult not to make yourself better. I think so, I am in a good moment, but I aspire to more and to reach my best version.

-One of the facets that he is showing is a great versatility that is helping him to enjoy more minutes.

“The goal was a dream. You always watch the Champions League on television and you see your idols and idols play in big stadiums … what we live there is a dream”

-With this issue of injuries one has to adapt where the coach puts you. I am happy to play wherever it is, you have to comply and the important thing is to add minutes.

“But where are you most comfortable?”

-I have always been a forward since I was little, but a little further back I have seen that he can do well and I have adapted. I like where they put me, because the important thing is to play.

-What is clear is that between injuries and the loaded calendar he is having minutes and, as he did last year, he is taking advantage of them very well.

-We know how difficult it is to have minutes at Real Madrid. Now, with injuries, you have to take advantage of opportunities. I’m a player who works for whatever minutes and take advantage of opportunities … For now, it’s going quite well for me and I hope to continue like this because the work will continue.

– Fate had something great prepared for you, scoring Real Madrid’s first goal in the Champions League, how did you experience it?

-Above all, I am left with the victory, which was very important. The goal was a dream. You always watch the Champions League on television and you see your idols and idols play in big stadiums … it is a dream that we live there.

-The opposite is happening in Primera Iberdrola, what is happening to the team in the league?

– We knew that the calendar was not easy, the injuries have not helped. But, it is not an excuse, because in the Champions League we are doing very well. Let’s hope that the results of Europe will rub off in the league because things are being done well. We know the work that we are doing together and that the results will come for sure. This is going to go forward.

-You are only 20 years old and you have a long career ahead of you, what dream do you have?

“Let’s hope that the results of Europe are contagious in the league because things are being done well”

-I am very young and I aspire to everything. There are many things to achieve, little by little, step by step and without haste. This year at the club we have four competitions in sight and we aspire to everything. I aspire to get titles with Real Madrid and if it can also be with the National Team.

-Talk about titles, which is what Real Madrid lacks after getting the ticket to Europe …

-We are not obsessed with winning titles, it is our goal, but the important thing is to progress little by little and grow day by day.

-On a personal level, what goals do you set this season?

-We fight to be starters in the team, have more and more minutes and play a good role. If it can be with goals since I am a forward.

-In the U-23 you have Laura del Río as a coach, how is she as a coach?

-I was lucky enough to share a field with her at TACON and I already knew her. As a coach, she is how she was as a player. Everything he knows about football is incredible and he helps us a lot. Until recently she has been here and following in her footsteps is going to help us a lot.

-Is it strange to have a teammate now as ‘boss’?

-At the beginning it’s a bit weird, but as a player she really liked the subject of indicating things and explaining to us. I knew she liked being a coach and I am proud to have her as a partner and now as a coach. You know a lot about this.
