Lopetegui leaves the Wolverhampton bench due to “differences of opinion” with the board

MADRID, 8 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish coach Julen Lopetegui has ceased to be the coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers this Tuesday, as reported by the English club itself on its website, admitting “differences of opinion on certain issues” in preparation for the imminent 2023/24 course.

The Spaniard has been in Wolverhampton for barely nine months. “Lopetegui joined ‘Wolves’ in November and successfully guided the club to stay in the Premier League. However, the manager and the club recognized and accepted their differences of opinion on certain issues and agreed that a friendly termination of his contract was the best solution for all parties,” the press release stated.

“Talks have been ongoing in recent weeks, held in the utmost respect and cordiality, giving the club time and space to start working on finding a successor, while also ensuring that Julen and his staff They could continue with their planned preparation to guarantee that the team is in the best possible conditions”, added the press text.

For his part, Lopetegui wished “everyone at the club the best of luck for the future”. He also thanked “the opportunity” given at the time “to take the reins of this wonderful club.” “It has been an honor to enjoy this adventure in the day-to-day company of Matt Hobbs, Matt Wild, the head of player support Lisa Hollis and all the employees, whom I want to thank for their support,” he said.

“Also, of course, I want to thank the players, who have always given their all to achieve our goals, and especially the fans, who made me feel like one of them from the first moment and have always been incredible with me, with my staff and with my family”, Lopetegui told the official Wolverhampton media.

During his brief spell at Wolves, Lopetegui won nine league games, including one against Liverpool and another against Tottenham Hotspur at Molineux Stadium, helping to secure his sixth consecutive campaign in English football’s top flight.

Sports director Matt Hobbs thanked Lopetegui “for his dedication and hard work during his time at the club.” The former Spain coach and his assistants, in the words of Hobbs, “were hired with the main objective of keeping the club in the Premier League last season, an objective which they more than achieved”.

“While our ambition had been to go into the new season together, it is public knowledge that there were differences of opinion on some key issues, and all parties agreed that it would be better to part ways before the new season,” said the sporting director of the club. Wolverhampton.

“After a successful pre-season, full of hard work and good performances, Julen and his coaching staff leave the team in great shape heading into the season next week, giving his successor the best possible platform for the success,” Hobbs concluded.
