Logroñés surprises Almería and opens in Second

UD Logroñés achieved its first victory of the season this Saturday, and the first in LaLiga SmartBank, with a 1-0 against Almería thanks to a goal by Andy that put justice on the scoreboard to the dominance and chances of the Rioja team.

The game had a “rocky” start, with a lot of fighting but with little control of the ball, until the first clear chance arrived, at a quarter of an hour, in the boots of Fran Villalba, after a balliu cross, although his shot was not good before the local goalkeeper Miño.

Sergio Rodríguez's team was not intimidated and responded two minutes later with a collective move that ended with what would have been the first goal of the match but the referee canceled it by the hand of the white-and-blue striker Leo Ruiz.

Almería, a squad with much more “name”, did not feel or comfortable on the Las Gaunas grass, especially because Logroñés knew how to cover the bands well to avoid any danger from the Andalusians.

The Rioja team managed to reach the break without major setbacks and saw how the second half had an “energetic” start, with chances for both teams, although it was the local team who pressed the most in the rival area.

His best chance was a boarding school at Olaetxea, which ended with a dangerous shot from Siddiki, first, and a Chilean shot by Leo Ruiz, later, twenty minutes into the second half.

Almería still did not adapt well to the shock and the force that the Riojan team posed, although there were no great opportunities either.

Until in minute 77 came the prize for the effort of the Rioja, with a play by Iago López from the left, from where he crossed the area and there David González touched enough to leave the ball to his teammate Andy, who scored with a strong and accurate shot.

In the final minutes, Almería reacted and locked up the Rioja team in their area, and even drew through Sadiq, but the goal was annulled by the forward's previous hand.

Thus, Logroñés could breathe easy and celebrate the first victory in its history in professional football.
