MADRID, 16 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Liverpool put their presence on track in the quarterfinals of the Champions League after beating Inter Milan (0-2) thanks to goals from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, both in the final stretch of the first leg, while Bayern Munich saved the furniture (1-1) in the 90th minute on their visit to Salzburg.
At Giuseppe Meazza, Jurgen Klopp’s team pulled gallons to execute their victim. The ‘reds’ needed to wait for the final ‘rush’ to find their way to victory in a very balanced duel. The first goal of the night came after an impeccable header from Firmino, who took the leather to the far post of Handanovic in a free kick taken by Robertson.
The goal encouraged a Liverpool team that dominated with possession and prevented a quick exit from Inter, powerless since the end of the first half. The Italians suffered in construction and ran into a chameleon-like rival who resolved the clash -even much of the tie- in just eight minutes. From 75 to 83.
Firmino’s goal was followed by Salah’s after the Egyptian became the owner of a ball in the heart of the area that he finished off with eagerness. His shot was not excessively powerful but it did serve to beat the interista goalkeeper and make it 0-2 to the stupor of the local public, who did not stop whistling at the English during the last minutes.
For their part, Bayern Munich breathed a sigh of relief in the 90th minute thanks to a goal from Kingsley Coman, who perfectly took advantage of an assist from the eternal Thomas Muller to establish the final 1-1. A goal that did justice to the Bavarian superiority of the second half.
Not so much in the first, which was when the Austrians dominated in their counterattacks. In one of them came the 1-0 that complicated Bayern so much. Chukwubuike Adamu was in charge of beating Sven Ulreich with an open shoe, impossible for the German international to stop despite his stretch.
Starting with the goal, but especially after passing through the changing rooms, Julian Nagelsmann’s team took a step forward and controlled the chances, won the personal duels and was able to find a late prize but one that leaves him with life intact before face the second leg of the tie, which will be played on March 8.
