Lisa Marie, Elvis Presley’s only daughter, dies at 54: the complicated life of the princess of Rock

Singer Lisa Marie Presley, the only daughter of Elvis Presley, has died this Thursday at the age of 54 after being hospitalized for cardiac arrest.

Her mother, Priscilla Presley, has confirmed the death of Lisa Marie through a statement provided by a representative to the US television network CNN. “Priscilla Presley and the Presley family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Lisa Marie. They are deeply grateful for everyone’s support, love and prayers, and ask for privacy during this difficult time.”

Hours earlier, Priscilla reported through an Instagram post that her daughter had been rushed to a local hospital. Lisa Marie was unconscious at her Calabasas home with her, both her ex-husband Danny Keough and, later, paramedics performed CPR, according to TMZ.

This same week, Lisa Marie Presley attended the 2023 Golden Globes gala in Los Angeles, to support the actor Austin Butler who played Elvis Presley in a musical biopic and had been nominated for Best Performance in a Dramatic Motion Picture, which he ultimately won.

Born in 1968, Lisa Marie followed in her father’s footsteps and launched a career in music, releasing three albums. The first of these, in 2003, sold thousands of copies and received generally positive reviews.

Elvis Presley’s twin granddaughters

The only descendant of the King of Rock, Lisa Marie, 54, had two children (Riley Keough and Benjamin) with her first husband, the musician Danny Keough, before their divorce in 1994. In addition, the songwriter had twin daughters with her fourth husband, musician and producer Michael Lockwood, whom she married in 2006 after two brief marriages, one to pop star Michael Jackson and the other with actor Nicolas Cage. Dotted with scandals and affected by her addictions, the singer suffered a tragedy with the death of her second son, Benjamin, who was found lifeless at her home in Calabasas, Los Angeles, after shooting himself.

Resuscitation by her ex-husband

Elvis Presley’s daughter had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at West Hills Hospital in Los Angeles on Thursday, after being treated at her home in Calabasas (California) for cardiac arrest. An emergency team went to the singer’s home after being found unconscious in her room by the housekeeper. Her ex-husband, Danny Keough, tried to give her cardiopulmonary resuscitation until the toilets arrived and they decided to transfer her after one of her did some maneuvers to get her pulse back.

His mother, Priscilla, was photographed arriving at the health center dressed entirely in black and wearing a mask. “My beloved daughter Lisa Marie was rushed to the hospital. She is now receiving the best care. Please keep her and our family in your prayers. We feel everyone’s prayers and ask for privacy at this time,” he said in their profiles hours before the fatal outcome.

Lisa Marie was this week, on Tuesday, at the 2023 Golden Globes, held at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles. Along with her mother, she attended the gala to support Austin Butler, actor who plays the role of Elvis, in the film by Baz Luhrmann and Tom Hanks.

Kaia Gerber’s boyfriend (Cindy Crowford’s daughter) won the award. Lisa Marie, known as the princess of Rock, has three albums released, and was the owner of the rights to the company Elvis Presley Enterprises until 2005, when he sold the entire business. Besides, she was the owner of Graceland, his father’s home and grave in Memphis (Tennessee), which is visited as a museum by thousands of fans who make a pilgrimage there.
