Lions finish 13th in Dubai World Rugby 7s Series

MADRID, 3 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish men’s 7s rugby team finished in 13th position in the HSBC World Rugby 7s Series held in Dubai, after losing this Saturday against Uruguay in the first of the matches (12-24), and then winning against Japan (28-0) and Canada (7-38).

The effort made on the first day of the tournament took its toll on Los Leones Seven in the quarterfinals for 9th place, in which they were beaten by the South American team. The ‘teros’ played their cards intelligently and after dominating the scoreboard for a good part of the match they closed the game with a kick that left the Spaniards without options.

The national team managed to rebuild in the next match against Japan, in which the youngest shone with two essays by Jaime Manteca and one by debutant Asier Pérez. The victory gave the pass to the final for 13th place, which turned out to be an offensive recital against Canada with six trials perched.

All this after the Spanish stayed last Friday at the gates of the pass to the quarterfinals of gold in the dispute of the group stage, with a draw against Ireland (21-21),
a defeat against France (24-10) and a victory against Uganda (26-5).
