Portland Thorns midfielder Lindsey Horan was named Player of the Year US Soccer, the national soccer federation announced Thursday. The versatile Horan scored six goals and provided five assists and helped the United States to a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics and a second straight SheBelieves Cup title.
“Her work ethic in midfield and her mindset to continue to evolve as a player are inspiring,” national coach Vlatko Andonovski said of her. “His ability to control the pace of a match at the highest levels is world-class, as is his ability to win balls in midfield and help create goals in attack.”
The award was calculated through votes from national team players, coaches, members of the media, fans, and others.
“I’ve worked really hard to get to this point in my career and even though I know there is a lot more work to do and things to accomplish, individually and as a team, it’s always great to be recognized,” said Horan, who helped Portland make with the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) title this year.
Washington Spirit forward and NWSL rookie of the year Trinity Rodman was voted US Soccer Young Player of the Year.
