Athletes Lidia Campo and Miguel Baidal will defend their national title in the sixteenth edition of the 10 -kilometer Championship of Absolute and Master’s route, both individual and clubs, which will be played in Bilbao.
The distance that most popular runners welcomes every weekend on the roads throughout the country will crown its new ‘kings’ in a championship that will have some of the best midfielders, hindered, pure fondistas and national marathon.
In addition, the 10-kilometer Spanish Championship will be key to defining the preselection of the Spanish team in the first European Running Championship, which will take place in Brussels-Leuven on April 12 and 13.
The first two classified, provided they have the competitiveness brand required by the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA), will have the classification for Belgium. Apart, the very rapid circuit chosen by the organization of the 10K Bilbao Rural Kutxa, which is disputed in parallel to the national, lends itself to achieve those brands: 28:06, in the case of men and 32:20, in that of women.
The 10K Spanish Championship will begin at 12:00 hours, with departure and finish on the Arenal Paseo, although from 10:40 hours the children’s races of the 10K Rural Kutxa will be held.
National participants will travel the estuary on both banks and parade ahead of the great monuments of the city such as Guggenheim, the bridges of La Salve, Euskalduna and Zubizuri, La Gran Vía and the squares of the Sacred Heart, Euskadi and Moyúa.
Favorites to the National Title
The Burgos Lidia Campo and the Alicante Miguel Baidal conquered their first national title in 2024 in Crevillente (Alicante). Seven other athletes who will be in Bilbao also know what it is to be 10 kilometers champions.
In women, Elena Loyo, Azucena Díaz, Claudia Estévez and Laura Méndez, the winners in 2016, 2018, 2022 and 2021, respectively, will be placed in the departure line. In addition, María José Pueyo, winner in 2009 and 2012, will compete in Master F50. And in men, Javi Guerra, champion in 2009, and the two -champion Jesús Ramos (2022 and 2023) will be a threat to gold.
The female title will be more open than ever, because the double champion of Spain of Cross Carolina Robles will lead the Bilbao Santutxu Athletics Club. Among her companions are other outstanding corridors such as Alicia Berzosa, Laura Priego, Cristina Espejo and Carla Arce, all of them international.
The plusmarchist of Half Marathon Kaouto Boulaid seeks to climb to the top of a national podium for the first time, a feeling that Laura Luengo already knows, Lucía Rodríguez, Isabel Barreiro, María José Pérez and Júlia Font (in Trail Running). All of them will have a lot to say in Bilbao, just like the Olympic Marathon Ester Navarrete, Cristina Ruiz, Angela Viciosa or Carmela Cardama.
In the male race, in addition to Pérez, Baidal, Ramos and Guerra, the range of candidates for victory is also wide. It includes two marathon as Ayad Lamdsassem and Jorge Blanco, a national explicmmarks and another who knows what it is to be champion of Spain.
