Liane Lippert wins the sprint in the second stage of the women’s Tour de France

MADRID, 24 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The German cyclist Liane Lippert (Movistar Team) won the second stage of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift 2023 on Monday, held over 152 kilometers on a steep route starting in Clermont-Ferrand and finishing in Mauriac, after being the fastest in the final sprint.

The Teutonic national champion beat the leader, the Belgian Lotte Kopecky (SD Worx), and the Italian Silvia Persico (UAE Team ADQ) in a close final. The last few kilometers were marked by rain, which caused falls and made the difficult climb up the Côte de Trébiac, category 3, difficult.

The main breakaway of the day was made up of the Dutch Anouska Koster (Uno-X), Eva van Agt (Jumbo-Visma) and Yara Kastelijn (Fenix-Deceuninck), who marched ahead until the last kilometres, when they were then chased by the peloton.

With the group formed for the final climb, the Polish Katarzyna Niewiadoma (Canyon-Sram Racing) attacked, screening a group that was going to play for victory and in which the Movistar rider was the fastest, thus achieving her first victory on the Tour.

This ‘Grande Boucle’ will face its stage 3 this Tuesday between the cities of Collonges-La-Rouge and Montignac-Lascaux. It will be through a 148-kilometre route with four 4th category climbs and one 3rd category, to culminate in a flat finish that is again suitable for a sprint.
