Letizia shows off her long hair at the opera: opening night at the Teatro Real

The opera season starts this Tuesday at the Teatro Real and the kings have attended the event on time. Don Felipe VI and Doña Letizia have enjoyed the performance of Medea, Cherubini’s opera that portrays a tragic story of vicarious violence.

The queen has chosen to repeat the model, specifically one from The 2nd Skin Co, which she debuted during the 2021 Princess of Asturias awards ceremony. It is a black taffeta design with a sleeveless crew neck and a volume skirt. midi length finished with bows made of the same fabric from the spring-summer 2022 collection called Magna Magnolia. She has completed it with some vinyl ‘Manolos’ and diamond earrings to match one of the royal jeweler’s bracelets known as ‘passing jewels’.

The queen wore her hair flowing in the wind, very long and combed with delicate 1920s-style waves that created a beautiful effect on her back.

Cherubini’s opera Medea in co-production with the Abu Dhabi Festival will be at the Teatro Real during the 2023-2024 season. The musical direction is carried out by Ivor Bolton, who will lead two casts and the Teatro Real Choir and Orchestra. The stage direction is by Paco Azorín. Three sopranos will take on the title role: Maria Agresta, Saioa Hernández and Maria Pia Piscitelli, who will sing alongside the tenors Enea Scala and Francesco Demuro (Jasón), the mezzo-sopranos Nancy Fabiola Herrera and Silvia Tro Santafé (Neris), the basses Jongmin Park and Michael Mofidian (Creon), and the Spanish sopranos Sara Blanch and Marina Monzó (Dirce).

The new score of Medea that will be heard at the Teatro Real responds to an edition by Heiko Cullmann with recitatives by Alan Curtis. The set, also by Paco Azorín, is a complex structure 26 meters high (about 6 floors) that evokes the mythical underworld of Tartarus and is inspired by Dante’s Inferno, with eight concentric circles into which the characters descend, including the Furies, performed by virtuoso parkour artists (a physical discipline in which athletes try to overcome all types of obstacles to move in different spaces, climbing, jumping, crawling, etc.).
