Letizia, in Spanish red and a floral tiara at her gala dinner with the president of Colombia

The Royal Palace of Madrid has opened its doors on Wednesday night to offer a gala dinner in honor of the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, and his wife, Verónica Alcocer. It is the first of the year and all her eyes were on Doña Letizia, who has not disappointed. The queen has premiered a Spanish red dress made of wild silk and flamenco-inspired, with delicate ruffles on the shoulders and waist, longer at the back and in perfect harmony with an elegant train.

She has combined it with her favorite tiara, the floral one. He has worn it on many occasions but this is the first time he has done it as a headband, with loose hair. The tiara, made with diamonds that form flowers, was a gift from the dictator Francisco Franco to Queen Sofía on behalf of the Spanish people on the occasion of her wedding to Juan Carlos I. Infanta Cristina wore it at her wedding to Iñaki Urdangarin.

Doña Letizia has complemented the tiara with white gold and diamond button earrings. To hold the band of the Colombian Order of Boyacá, she has chosen a brooch with a diamond bow that belonged to the regent queen María Cristina of Austria and that the wife of Felipe VI has dusted off from the royal jeweler to wear it for the first time.

The dinner took place in the Great Hall of the Royal Palace of Madrid, which is the largest in Western Europe and one of the largest in the world. The dining room is 400 meters long and was inaugurated on November 29, 1879 by the kings Alfonso XII and María Cristina de Habsburgo. Illuminated with bronze lamps, it has a table suitable for 130 diners and capacity for 144 chairs. Those of the Kings, who sit facing each other, are slightly taller than the rest.
