This Sunday Athens has been the scene of the meeting of all the Bourbons and Greece, united to cover Doña Sofía and her family in the last farewell to King Constantine, brother of Queen Emerita, who died last Tuesday at the age of 82. Only the daughters of the Kings, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía have been missing.
Don Felipe and Doña Letizia landed in the Hellenic capital and went to the Grande Bretagne hotel, the same one where the vast majority of the royals who have attended the funeral for the former King of Greece have stayed.
In rigorous mourning, mourning, the Spanish monarch and his wife greeted the public gathered nearby upon their arrival and hours later a family dinner was held at the hotel restaurant.
At the family dinner we have also seen King Emeritus with Doña Sofía. Felipe VI’s father was with a cane and assisted by an escort; also to the infanta Elena together with Victoria Federica and Froilán. The Infanta Cristina has come on this Sunday, in which Urdangarin turned 55, with her four children. Everyone has covered her aunt, Queen Ana Maria of Greece, widow of Constantine, with her presence. Of course, there were Pablo and Marie-Chantal with their five children; Prince Nicholas and his wife, Tatiana Blatnik; and Princess Alexia with her husband and her children; Prince Philippos and Nina Flohr, Princess Theodora with her fiancee. We have also seen the kings of Sweden; Prince Haakon and Princess Mette-Marit of Norway; and Lady Gabriella Windsor.
Knowing that they are surrounded by cameras, Doña Letizia and Marie-Chantal have staged their union and closeness at such a solemn and delicate moment with exquisite cordiality. The queen of Spain has even held the hands of the deceased king’s daughter-in-law, and we have even had the opportunity to photograph her smiling at Marie-Chantal Miller, which occurs five years after Pablo de Grecia’s wife had them with doña Letizia on social networks. Both arm in arm, thus avoiding gossip and other comments about their supposed bad relationship.
Those rumors came to light in 2018, regarding the scuffle between Letizia and Doña Sofía in the cathedral of Palma de Mallorca during the Easter mass of that year, as a result of the video in which the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law exhibited something more than a disagreement, a video viral of which Marie-Chantal Miller publicly commented on Twitter: “She has shown her true face,” said the princess of Greece and Denmark at the time after observing the controversial images. Already in March 2021, Letizia and Pablo’s wife from Greece attended a religious service in tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh in London. They also coincided again last September at the funeral of Isabel II.
