MADRID, 13 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The French triathlete Léo Bergère was proclaimed European champion this Saturday in the event held in Munich (Germany), leading a historic triplet for his country, while the Spanish representatives were very far from the medals.
Bergère needed 1 hour, 41 minutes and 9 seconds to complete the course and 8 seconds were enough to beat his compatriot Pierre Le Corre, silver medalist, and Dorian Coninx, who was bronze with 1:41:24. The best Spaniard was Genis Grau with 26th place.
The Catalan triathlete recovered after a difficult swimming test and managed to be in the third cycling group that ended up joining together and forming a great platoon in T2, but could not advance positions to get into the head of the race. He finally finished with a time of 1:44:32.
Regarding the rest of the Spaniards, Mario Mola –the three-time world champion– finished in 31st position, followed by Sergio Baxter, who was very close to the Mallorcan triathlete, especially in the foot race, finishing in 33rd position. Finally, Antonio Serrat managed to finish in 49th position.
