The Canarian team strikes down US Monastir (112-42) and will look for its third title in the tournament against Sao Paulo
MADRID, 10 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Lenovo Tenerife defeated Tunisian US Monastir with authority (112-42) this Friday in their semifinal of the FIBA Intercontinental Cup, to give themselves the opportunity of a third title in the tournament, again in the heat of their pavilion in La Laguna , in the final that will measure him on Sunday with Sao Paulo.
Txus Vidorreta’s team, in their sixth final in the last six years between the FIBA Champions and Intercontinental, went over their rival from minute one. The African team, which came with the flag of the Basketball Africa League champion, was not an adversary for an intense Canary Islands and was able to rotate thinking about the assault on the title that they already won in 2017 and 2020.
The first play of the game was a pass from Huertas and a dunk from Shermadini. The two best weapons of the aurinegro team roaming freely, at home, against a rival who, beyond being one step below, had a very bad day. With 6/25 shooting from the field, 24-9 rebounding and 17-3 assists, the 52-16 scoreline at halftime seemed even kinder to the African team.
Jerome Randle, a newcomer to US Monastir, was the only sign of life for his team, while Lenovo Tenerife found points non-stop at Abromaitis, Doornekamp and Shermadini. The FIBA ’Champions’ champion continued to do his thing in the second quarter, this time with the entry into action of Fitipaldo, with a wardrobe background for the host that became a nightmare for the Tunisians.
The game ran out of history very soon and Vidorreta had a kind of training thinking about the final. Salin ended with a firework of three-pointers, Abromaitis left as top scorer (20 points) and the host tried to be serious without humiliating an unworthy rival for an international ‘Final 4’.
Shortly before, in the first semifinal, there was no color either, and the Brazilian Sao Paulo danced (91-70) to the American Rio Grande Valley Vipers. The South Americans launched their offense in the second quarter and their best was 68-38 in the third, with Tulio Da Silva (19 points and 15 rebounds), Miller (24 points) and Elinho (10 assists) as standouts.
