Lemar, failed renovation

Thomas Lemar has long had a renewal offer from Atlético. The French midfielder ends his contract with the rojiblanco team in 2023 and the club contacted him to extend his contract. Until now, he has not responded to the interest of the Wanda Metropolitano entity. Lemar has not said yes to Atlético’s interest in continuing to have his services. What may happen in the future only the player himself knows. For Cholo he is a very important footballer, a piece with resources and quality beyond any doubt. A footballer who, when he has performed at his level, has given his coach joy.

At the age of 26 (11-12-1995) he has completed his fourth season as a rojiblanco. He arrived as Griezmann’s faithful squire, and supported by a good performance at Monaco. He was an expensive signing: 70 million euros, at the time the most expensive of the Madrid club. He dazzled in his first game in an official match with Atlético (European Super Cup against Real Madrid), although it was difficult for him to find the regularity that his coach asked for.

Lemar has played 143 games for Atlético and has scored 9 goals. And given 14 assists. Last summer he had offers to leave, but neither club nor player considered the possibility of leaving. Simeone always had great faith and trust in him, although this season injuries have weighed him down. Physical problems have slowed him down in what was his most decisive season at Atlético. The Frenchman has added four goals and six assists in the 35 official games he has played this year and had started the season maintaining the ascending version of last year.

We will have to see what happens this summer. He could renew or continue without doing it and Atlético take advantage of any offer that could come for him. For now, waiting. At the moment, the Frenchman has not responded to Atlético’s offer. His market value is 40 million and several clubs are attentive to his situation. He knows that if he wants, he can continue for more years as a rojiblanco.
