The Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) triumphed this Sunday at home by winning the eventful Monaco Grand Prix race, the eighth round of the Formula 1 World Championship, ahead of the Australian Oscar Piastri (McLaren) and the Spanish Carlos Sainz (Ferrari). ), while Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) finished eleventh.
After dominating the entire weekend in the Principality, Leclerc was finally a prophet in his homeland and achieved his long-awaited first victory at home in the ‘Grand Circus’. With this, he once again climbs to the top of the podium for the first time since Austria 2022.
Meanwhile, the Australian Oscar Piastri took second place ahead of Sainz, who signed his fourth podium of the season. All after a typical race in Monaco in which most of the cars held on with the wheels they put on after the serious accident of the Mexican Sergio Pérez (Red Bull) and the Haas on the first lap that made the red flag wave on the track.
Once the traffic lights were turned off, chaos broke out in the Principality. The Haas of Dane Kevin Magnussen took over the Mexican ‘Checo’ Pérez, who crashed into the protections and ended up with the car completely destroyed. German Nico Hulkenberg (Haas) was also involved in the accident, which caused the red flag to wave on the track.
The three drivers were left out of the race at the start, as was the Frenchman Esteban Ocon (Alpine), whose crash with his teammate and compatriot Pierre Gasly at the entrance to the tunnel frustrated any option of moving forward. Sainz was luckier, who suffered a puncture in the middle of the fight for second position with Piastri and was able to change the tire with the red flag.
The event resumed from a standstill almost 50 minutes later, after all the drivers changed tires; The Ferraris and McLarens put on the new tires to try to go with them to the end. From then on, the traditional ‘little train’ of Monaco began.
With Leclerc at the front, Piastri and Sainz stayed very close, and the British Lando Norris (McLaren) joined them, attentive to any setback. The distances between all of them were moving, but the danger was practically zero.
Behind, the Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull), who started sixth, tried to make up positions and launched an undercut on the British George Russell (Mercedes), who managed to withstand the threat of the three-time world champion.
The few overtakes of the event were offered by the Finnish Valtteri Bottas (Kick Sauber), on lap 53 against the American Logan Sargeant (Williams) in the casino, and the Canadian Lance Stroll (Aston Martin), precisely over Bottas in the middle of the tunnel in 58 and, shortly after, on Sargeant in Santa Devota.
After the podium positions, Norris, Russell, Verstappen, the British Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), the Japanese Yuki Tsunoda (RB), the Thai Alex Albon (Williams) and the Frenchman Pierre Gasly (Alpine) completed the ‘Top 10’. Alonso, for his part, was eleventh.
