MADRID, 18 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) changed the electronic control unit of his engine this Friday before the second free practice session of the Canadian Grand Prix, a third change in the engine that condemns him to a 10-position penalty this Saturday on the starting grid.
“A new electronic control unit has been fitted to Charles’ car before FP2. It is the third of these items used so far this season, only two are allowed, so Charles will have a grid penalty,” Ferrari acknowledged.
F1 also announced the sanction for that change in one of the parts of the engine that poses the most problems for a Leclerc that, although he was failing on Sundays, the fight for pole was at least smiling at him. Thus, the threat of the Red Bull, with the solid leadership of Max Verstappen, grows in the Gilles Villeneuve.
The Monegasque, who began dominating the World Cup and is now third, 34 points behind the Dutchman, has only achieved one podium in the last five races, and also had to retire in Barcelona and, last week, in Baku. Leclerc finished this Friday’s free practice in Canada second, next to Verstappen, the fastest.
