layoffs work

The strike has a new member since this weekend. This is Robert Moreno, the last coach fired in the First Division. There are already nine relays on the bench so far this season. Up to seven clubs have had to fire their coach and, except in the case of Alavés, all have had a positive effect on the field. The average points per game and goals have increased.

The change of coach that has given the best result has been the one carried out at the Camp Nou. Xavi’s numbers are much better than Koeman’s. The percentage of victories has grown (from 40% to 64%), the percentage of ties remains the same (from 30% to 29%) and the losses have fallen (from 30% to 7%). And that shows in the points obtained. The Dutch coach averaged half the points in play (1.5), while the Catalan has an average of 2.2 by shock. Xavi’s numbers are also noticeable in the scoring record: they score 2 goals per game on average (before it was 1.5) and they concede one (before 1.1).

In the rest of the benches that have also been handed over to the coach, the points obtained have been doubled. At Levante, Paco López averaged 0.5 points in the eight games he was there and Lisci, in eleven games, achieved one point per game. A case similar to that of Elche, Escribá achieved only 0.78 points for Francisco’s 1.4; to that of Cádiz, from Álvaro Cervera’s 0.7 to Sergio’s 1.42 points, and more notable is that of Getafe. Míchel only achieved one point in eight games (0.1 on average), while Quique Sánchez Flores has achieved 26 in 19 games (an average of 1.36).

The effect of relays on the benches

VICTORIAS TIES LOSSES GOALS IN FAVOR GOALS AGAINST POINTS
LEVANTE Paco Lopez 0 (0%) 4 (50%) 4 (50%) 6 13 4
Javier Pereira 0 (0%) 3 (43%) 4 (57%) 7 15 3

GETAFE Michel 0 (0%) 1 (13%) 7 (88%) 3 13 1
Quique 6 (32%) 8 (42%) 5 (26%) 23 19 26
BARCELONA Koeman 4 (40%) 3 (30%) 3 (30%) 15 11 15

Xavi 9 (64%) 4 (29%) 1 (7%) 29 14 31
ELCHE Scribe 2 (14%) 5 (36%) 7 (50%) 11 20 11
Francisco 5 (42%) 2 (17%) 5 (42%) 17 18 17
ALAVES Calleja 4 (22%) 3 (17%) 11 (61%) 15 29 15
beggar 1 (11%) 4 (44%) 4 (44%) 6 15 7
CÁDIZ Alvaro Cervera 2 (10%) 8 (40%) 10 (50%) 15 34 14
Sergio Gonzalez 2 (29%) 4 (57%) 1 (14%) 8 5 10
GRANADA Robert Moreno 5 (19%) 10 (37%) 12 (44%) 28 43 25

The only team that has not improved its numbers, for now, with the change of coach is Alavés. The babazorro team with Calleja achieved 22% wins (5), 17% draws (11) and 61% losses (15); while Mendilibar the only thing that has managed to reduce has been the games lost (44%) and increase the draws (44%), but the victories are still scarce (11%, one in total). The average number of points obtained by Alavés with the change of coach has gone from 0.8 to 0.7. In terms of goals, the success in the rival goal has worsened (from 0.83 goals per game to 0.66) and those conceded remain the same (from 1.61 to 1.66). Yes indeed, Calleja’s numbers are also better because he led the team twice as many days as Mendilibar (9). The Basque coach has already shown in recent seasons with Eibar to be able to get his team out of trouble and achieve salvation.

Granada, with the dismissal of Robert Moreno, is looking for a change in trend. The Nasrid group is on the brink of the abyss. It occupies the 17th position, the last one that allows salvation, but with a single point above relegation. Their loss percentage (44%) is higher than their win percentage (19%) and their draw percentage (37%), as they average less than one point per game. In addition, on average they concede more goals (1.6 per game), than those scored (1.03).
