Laura Barquero and Marco Zandron brush the ‘Top 10’ in the figure skating final

MADRID, 19 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish skaters Laura Barquero and Marco Zandron have finished eleventh, one hundredth of the ‘Top 10’, in the figure skating pairs final of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, while the cross-country skier Imanol Rojo has finished his participation with a 21st place in the 50 km freestyle.

The Madrilenian and the Spanish-Italian took to the court at the Capital Indoor Stadium after finishing eleventh in Friday’s short program -63.34 points, improving the score from last month’s European Championship (60.65)-.

To the sound of ‘Awakening’ by Andy Quin and ‘Imagine’ by John Lennon, the Spanish couple nailed the free program to garner a total of 118.02 points for a total score of 181.36, just 0.01 behind the Canadian couple formed by Kirsten Moore -Towers and Michael Marinaro.

Thus, they were third after the performance of six of the 16 duos, to finally repeat the position of Friday. The Chinese Wenjing Sui and Cong Han (239.88) took the gold medal, while the Russian couples formed by Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov (239.25) and Anastasia Mishina and Aleksandr Galliamov (237.71) took the silver and bronze, respectively.

IMANOL ROJO, 21st IN 50 KM FREESTYLE

For his part, the Basque Imanol Rojo was the last of the representatives of the Royal Spanish Federation of Winter Sports (RFEDI) to compete, and he said goodbye with a meritorious twenty-first place in the 50 km freestyle test, the third in which he participated in the Chinese appointment.

In a competition shortened to 30 kilometers by the wind, the man from Tolosa finished seventeenth, but finally dropped positions to touch the ‘Top 20’, improving the 33rd position achieved in this distance reigns both in Sochi 2014 and PyeongChang 2018.

With this, he repeats the twenty-first position achieved in the 15x15km skiathlon event, where he managed to beat Vicenç Vilarrubla’s 31st place in Turin 2006 and Vancouver 2010.

In addition, in the 15 km Clásico, he finished 39th place. “I make a very positive balance of these Olympic Games, since I have improved all my previous marks”, assured Rojo.
