Latest news on the Senior Bowl practice: the top NFL draft risers for 2024

Some of the best football prospects for the 2024 NFL draft are in Mobile, Alabama this week for the Senior Bowl. The players are divided into two groups, and they practice against each other for three days.

In the past, the annual event was only for seniors as well as graduated juniors. But because of a rule change, underclassmen who registered for the draft can now attend.

Player prospects who could be picked in the first round, like Michael Penix Jr., Bo Nix, Laiatu Latu, Quinyon Mitchell, and Xavier Legette, are all trying to stand out.

What’s new from inside Hancock Whitney Stadium at the College of South Alabama? Matt Miller, Jordan Reid, and Field Yates are here in the latest from inside the stadium.

As the day goes on, they break down all the action, including the biggest risers, how the best prospects are doing, which sleepers are taking the lead, which controversial prospects nevertheless need to show, and what they hear from scouts, coaches, and executives in Alabama.

On Wednesday, while Reese’s Senior Bowls practices are going on, more than 100 NFL Draft prospects are in the middle of an important job interview.

Lance Zierlein and Eric Edholm of NFL.com talk about the best players from Day 2 and give news and notes to the day’s events.

Eric Edholm wrote regarding Mitchell in this blog on Tuesday, but I am also going to say what I think about him. Mitchell gets up early.

Scouts were interested in him before the week because of his size and game film, yet it’s different if they see him in person.

Mitchell uses a lot of trap coverage moves when the press is on. This is when he declares early leverage and forces the receiving player to let go outside.

From there, he has shown that he has the speed and muscle control to stay with receivers and the strength to block the catch area.

In a game against Brenden Rice of USC, Mitchell started from behind and ran a post route to the end zone, where he jumped and caught the pass. This year, he ought to be in the running for CB1.

There isn’t much time left until the 2024 NFL draft. The New Orleans Saints are going to be with the clock before we know it. The first big stop on this trip will be the 2024 Reese’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.

When the top draft-eligible athletes from across the country practice against each other before the all-star game, teams will be watching to see how they do.

The Reese’s Senior Bowl has always been open to juniors who have met all of their graduation requirements. Now, all underclassmen prospects who have declared for the NFL Draft can play, even if they haven’t finished their degrees.

Twelve junior college players have been invited to the 2024 NFL Draft and have accepted. These players are Oregon center Jackson Powers-Johnson, Texas defensive tackle Byron Murphy II, Kansas edge rusher Austin Booker, Miami safety Kamren Kinchens, and BYU offensive tackle Kingsley Suamataia. Murphy is the best-rated junior athlete on CBSSports.com.

For the third time this season, Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix will fight. It was decided during the season who would play for the Pac-12 in the College Football Playoff. This week, more is at stake for each quarterback personally.

Some of the best quarterback prospects of this year’s draft are Caleb Williams of USC, Drake Maye of North Carolina, and Jayden Daniels of LSU. This list is not in any particular order.

Then there are three more players, J.J. McCarthy of Michigan, Penix, and Nix, all vying for the fourth spot, which could lead to a first-round pick or carry over to Day 2 of the NFL Draft.

Given the chance to look at Nix and Penix’s arms next to one another this week, it is a good week for people who evaluate quarterback talent.
