MADRID, 31 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The iconic American city of Las Vegas will host a Formula 1 World Grand Prix starting next season, which will also be at night and will be held on Saturday, as Liberty Media, organizer of the championship, made public on Wednesday.
“The world famous neon lights of Las Vegas will be the backdrop for the new Formula 1 race when the American city hosts a night event starting in 2023,” the World Cup said on its website.
The new Las Vegas Grand Prix will take place on a Saturday, and not a Sunday as is tradition, in the month of November and underpins the bet on the championship for the United States, which this year will run in Austin and, as a novelty, in Miami.
Las Vegas has already hosted races in 1981 and 1982, but this will be the first time that F-1 single-seaters compete on the Strip layout of the city in the State of Nevada and that it passes through its famous hotels and casinos.
As indicated by the F-1, the circuit has 14 curves and a length of 6.12 kilometers, being able to reach 342 km/h in some sections. The layout features three straights, a sequence of high-speed corners and a single chicane. The Grand Prix would be scheduled for 50 laps.
The announcement was made during an event Wednesday in Las Vegas attended by Liberty Media Chairman and CEO Greg Maffei and F-1 Chairman and CEO Stefano Domenicali, and Nevada Governor, Steve Sisolak, CEO and President of Live Nation Entertainment and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) Steve Hill and Live Nation Entertainment President and CEO Michael Rapino.
“Iconic Las Vegas and Formula 1, the pinnacle of motorsports, are the perfect blend of speed and glamour. Our confidence in this unique opportunity is evident in our decision to take on the role of promoter of the Las Vegas Grand Prix in association with Live Nation,” Maffei said.
The manager recalled that “the potential of Formula 1 has been well demonstrated in recent seasons” and that this new Las Vegas Grand Prix “will only take it to the next level”.
For Stefano Domenicali, the announcement represents “an incredible moment for Formula 1 that demonstrates its great appeal and its growth with a third race in the United States”. “Las Vegas is a destination known around the world for excitement, hospitality, excitement and of course the famous Strip,” he warned.
“There is no better place to compete in Formula 1 than in the entertainment capital of the world and we can’t wait to be here next year. I want to thank everyone who helped put this event together, especially Governor Sisolak, the County Commission of Clark, Steve Hill and our local partners.”
Ultimately, Hill believes that “the history, energy and drive of Formula 1 will culminate in an unforgettable Saturday night on the Las Vegas Strip.” “Spectators will experience the unparalleled thrill of watching these world-class drivers compete on what is sure to become one of the most iconic race tracks in the world. We look forward to November 2023 when we prove once again that Las Vegas is’ The biggest arena in the world,'” he said.
