Las Palmas falls to Albacete and Eibar takes the lead

MADRID, 11 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) –

UD Las Palmas stumbled (1-2) in Gran Canaria this Sunday against Albacete on matchday 20 of LaLiga SmartBank, a defeat that cost them the Second Division leadership in favor of Eibar, who beat Oviedo (1-0) , while Burgos fell (1-0) in Granada.

García Pimienta’s team found themselves behind twice against a team from La Mancha that arrived on the island with a victory in the last eight games. Manuel Fuster put an Albacete ahead who jumped into the match better and forced Las Palmas to react.

The yellow team did it without excessive order, conceding behind but accumulating many occasions. Already in the second half, still with the local pain from Vitolo’s injury, Alberto Moleiro left four players to give Pejiño the 1-1 assist. Las Palmas besieged but Albacete did not give up the attack.

The local defender Coco played it with a hand in the area calling for a foul and, shortly after, ended up giving Higinio the maximum penalty. The striker himself made it 1-2 after Maikel Mesa missed the penalty and also a first rebound. Thus, the ‘mechanical cheese’ knocked down the leader and confirmed the overtaking of Eibar.

Shortly before, the Basque team achieved their third victory in a row to add 36 points, compared to 35 for the Canaries, against an Oviedo team that did not cause much concern in Ipurua. The Basque afternoon was placid after the 1-0 score by Peru Nolaskoain, who scored the goal that would have been hopelessly Olympic by Matheus Pereira in the 69th minute.

Meanwhile, Burgos, third with 34, signed their second straight defeat by falling (1-0) on their visit to Granada. The Andalusian team gave signs of their step forward with Paco López to storm the promotion zone thanks to Uzuni’s goal shortly before the break. The Castilian team advanced lines and fought the second part, with alternatives for both, but Los Cármenes kept the prize.

In addition, Cartagena left the ‘Top 6’ with their draw (0-0) against Sporting de Gijón. In the lower zone, Ponferradina added three important points in a direct duel against Lugo (1-0) and Mirandés also moved away from the red zone with the 1-2 win over Racing, another direct duel that lengthens the Cantabrian crisis marking the decline. The last two, Malaga and Ibiza, drew (1-1) at Can Misses.
