Larra, the puppy converted into an elite lane in Lezama

In the resounding victory over Pucela we saw a new demonstration of power, overflow and even definition of a Gaizka Larrazabal that has suited Amorebieta like a glove. The Bilbao player, on loan from Real Zaragoza, has played practically everything since he arrived at Urritxe. In 12 games played, eleven at the start, he has emerged as one of the biggest revelations of LaLiga SmartBank from his unexpected new position, the lane. His character and his privileged physique have earned him a place as indisputable in the Velez de Mendizabal scheme.

His father Aitor, was an Athletic legend, captain for many years and much loved by the athleticzale fans. He acted in the opposite profile to his son, an extraordinary left back who hung up his boots in 2004, when little Gaizka was just seven years old. From left to right, Larra has inherited precision and strong hitting from his father, a great specialist on set pieces and maximum penalty, from where he scored 29 of the 36 penalties he shot. A large part of those goals were dedicated precisely to his son, putting a pacifier in his mouth that he hid under the stocking. As if that were not enough, more facts that unite the trajectory of both, since Aitor was Amorebieta’s coach in the 2016/17 season. Larra made his Athletic debut without much luck, as a right winger, under the orders of Gaizka Garitano, current Eibar coach. During the 2019/20 season he participated in a total of ten league games, entering second parts and adding 244 minutes. That same year he started in the Cup against Intercity, where he managed to give an assist, which today is his only goal participation in the rojiblanco club. Always glued to the lime and looking for the center, he failed to stand out and left free for Zaragoza. A frustrated campaign in the hand box, where he did not find a regularity in his game, caused this past summer market to land in Amorebieta. Despite belonging to the Aragonese team, Athletic maintains a last repurchase option that expires next summer. Surely from Lezama they are up to date with the high performance of the now blue lane.
