Laporta returns to Barcelona with a win

Joan Laporta fulfilled the forecasts and became the 42nd president of Barcelona by winning the elections with 30,184 votes, which represents 54.28 percent of the votes. The leader of the ‘esteem Barça’ candidacy, who already led the club from 2003 to 2010, has six years ahead of him that will be fundamental for the immediate future of an institution mired in a general crisis. The campaign that began with the giant canvas next to the Bernabéu announcing “You want to see you again” ended at the Camp Nou confirming that we will see Laporta again, who He returns to the box through the front door with a triumph that was sealed with the embrace between the three candidates in a hopeful image for Barcelona fans. For once, they knew how to compete, debate, win and lose in a day that honors the uniqueness of Barcelona as a club. Behind Laporta, indisputable winner of the elections, was Víctor Font with 16,679 votes and Toni Freixa, with 4,769.

Laporta returns to the Camp Nou box in a big way and backed by an unappealable result. A participation of 55,611 members that represents 50.42 percent of the census and that gave him the victory with an absolute majority. It should be remembered that Sandro Rosell won in 2010 the elections with the most participation in history with 35,021 votes of the 57,088 that were cast but that these were in the midst of a pandemic.

The day began gray, cloudy and rainy and for a moment it was feared that participation could decline. The weather, the pandemic and the regional confinement threatened to overshadow the day, but in the end – and within limitations – the day was impressive at the level of participation.

Perhaps in anticipation of what was to come, Joan Laporta, who was the first candidate to cast his vote, was clear when leaving the polling station stated that “When I went to vote it was raining, when I left the sun had already risen, it will be for something ”. A forecast that was fulfilled at the end of the day.

In fact, an hour before the end of election day, Laporta and his team went to the statue of Johan Cruyff to preview a winning photograph in an atmosphere of undisguised euphoria. Half an hour later, the TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio poll gave Laporta's candidacy a victory that was close to 60 percent.

Joan Laporta has before her a huge task. Taking into account what he explained throughout his campaign, it seems clear that Barça will go to play at Estadi Lluís Companys de Montjuïc while the Camp Nou remodeling works are carried out, which Koeman will continue as coach of the club and remains to be outline the sports structure of the Blaugrana entity. Mateo Alemany, former general manager of Mallorca and Valencia and former candidate for the presidency of the RFEF aims to be the sports director of Laporta. It remains to be seen the role that Jordi Cruyff will have, who collaborated in the design of Víctor Font's sports project, who could enter as technical secretary when he dissociates himself from his job as a technician in China and The incorporation of Carles Puyol as a link with the squad is not ruled out either.

It remains to be seen how the economic problem is solved. Jaume Giró will be a name that will sound a lot in the future of Barcelona. He will be the economic vice president of the new board and he will be responsible for issuing and issuing the bond project to refinance the club.
