The president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, vindicated this Sunday the figure of Xavi Hernández in charge of the Culé bench, at the same time that he recognized his “pride” of winning the Spanish Super Cup after defeating (1-3) Real Madrid and the their need to “celebrate a drink”.
“Xavi has knowledge, personality and a generic style of playing football that Barcelona represents. Xavi is a clear exponent and one of the main architects of this. We are very proud of our coach and all his staff. We have known how to suffer after this year and a half. This is a reward, a title was missing and that the culés could celebrate a cup”, acknowledged the president in statements to Movistar Plus, collected by Europa Press.
The Barça president also praised the figure of Gavi, MVP of the match and a key figure in the three goals for the culé team. “He scored a great goal and gave the other two goals. He deserves the honor of being the best player of the match, although I think the whole team deserves it. Pedri, Busi and many others have played a great game as a great team what they are,” he said.
The maximum mandator of the box culé also agreed of the eternal rival, to whom wanted to congratulate by his great behavior. “Real Madrid has been a worthy opponent, they know how to be in victory and defeat. They have been very elegant. In addition, Florentino has dedicated some very affectionate words to Busquets”, he pointed out.
Finally, Laporta was grateful to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) for having organized an “extraordinary” Super Cup. “We must congratulate the RFEF for this extraordinary Super Cup. We have felt very proud to belong to the RFEF. Furthermore, it has been a special championship because we said that we would restore joy to Barcelona fans”, he concluded.
