LaLiga wants to “combat” audiovisual piracy “in bars and reach 85,000 subscribers

MADRID, Jan. 22 (SportsFinding) –

The president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, confirmed that one of his main objectives for the next four years of office is “to end audiovisual piracy” regarding the broadcast of football in bars and increase its television expansion “to 85,000 businesses to short term”.

Mediapro and LaLiga presented on Wednesday the results of the 'Study of football consumption in public places', which reveals what Spanish football looks like in bars and how piracy has been reduced in these places, and which showed that 15 million people They see at least one game in a bar during the season in Spain, and almost three million once a week, of which 51% are women.

In this sense, the impact in the bars is summarized in that, during the games, they are very close to doubling their income, and currently subscribers with business are around 50,000, a number that Javier Tebas considers “very good”, although they must “polish the product “to improve.

“We are the only ones who take out football in the bars to contest, separate from the individual. We must also work in this aspect to cut distance with the Premier in the bars, with its network of pubs and that tradition. And it must be regulated. No it is the same to have a bar of 60 square meters on Serrano Street than one of 300 in Soria. Adapting that is one of the pending subjects we have and we are still working on it, “Tebas explained after the presentation.

The president of LaLiga focused his goal on reaching “up to 85,000 subscribers”, and working on “improving the experience”. “It is true that there is a reduction in bars and it is true that there has been an increase in subscribers. The challenge is to convince us that we are partners in this business, that if we put our football here, it is a business,” he said.

“More than 40% also have the residential at home. The experience is totally different and many times you prefer to see it with friends in a bar even though you could. I try to go to the bars to watch football, but when you work in an institution like this it is impossible for you to go to bars and not control piracy. I have a professional flaw, “he explained.

In this regard, he stressed the need to “combat audiovisual piracy” in business, which discredits the “great work that Mediapro does.” “You have to think that until two seasons ago, 40% of the bars did not have football legal, that is, 1 in 3 bars was not legal,” he said.

“Since then we are developing an activity, which we do not like, but we have to do it, we have to go with the stick even if we don't like it. We have to be legal. It is a crime what they do and we have to try to stop them. We are an industry that creates many jobs, and we have to defend those who meet the standards, “he concluded.
