LaLiga urges CTA and RFEF to “stop evading responsibilities” in arbitration decisions

The employer calls the statement in which it invites it to apply the semi-automatic offside system “gross”

MADRID, 17 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

LaLiga has asked this Tuesday the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA) and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to stop “evading responsibilities in arbitration decisions”, and describes as “gross” the statement in which it invites you to apply the semi-automatic offside used in the recent Spanish Super Cup.

“From LaLiga we regret the grotesque statement from the CTA sent by the RFEF, in which far from assuming responsibilities or apologizing, they try to shift the blame to an organization completely unrelated to arbitration decision-making such as LaLiga”, criticized the employers in a note.

In the text issued by LaLiga, the organization urged the CTA and the RFEF “to carry out self-criticism and stop evading responsibilities in arbitration decisions”, in the face of “repeated complaints” from Spanish football professionals.

“LaLiga has great respect and appreciation for referees in Spain. So much so that, despite the fact that the management of professional football referees corresponds to the CTA through the RFEF, all arbitration costs are covered by LaLiga and the clubs, with Spanish referees being the best paid in the world”, highlighted LaLiga.

In its statement, the employers recalled that it has already proposed “improvements in the VAR”, such as the creation of a specialized body for this, different from the field referees. “However, the RFEF has recently proposed a regulatory amendment to limit a specific VAR referee being in the position for more than two years, which LaLiga has strongly opposed,” he explained.

Also this Tuesday, the CTA assured that it works in the “continuous search for improvements” to achieve “excellence” and, in this sense, invited LaLiga to adopt the semi-automatic offside technology that the RFEF used in the recent Spanish Super Cup . Thus, he announced that he will resume talks with employers for said technology.

An announcement that comes after the complaints from the Cádiz CF coach, Sergio González, for an unindicated offside in his match against Elche CF. The coach stated that the referee for the match this Monday against Elche, Carlos del Cerro Grande, had apologized to him because the VAR had made an error by not signaling the starting position of Ezequiel Ponce, scorer of the goal, as offside. definitive that gave the tie (1-1) to the franjiverde club.

Regarding the specific application of the semiautomatic offside, LaLiga clarified in its note that “no league in the world currently has semiautomatic offside technology”, although they are already studying it. In addition, he highlighted that in the four and a half seasons that VAR has been applied, “rarely have there been errors of the magnitude of the match between Cádiz and Elche”.

“This means that up to now the system has worked, beyond the fact that LaLiga does and will do everything on its part for the continuous improvement of the system. Blaming human errors on the absence of a semi-automatic force is trying to deceive fans, players, coaches, presidents. With this system there can also be human errors if the protocol is not followed”, he reiterated about a technology that will not be applied in the round of 16 of the Cup, “or in any other phase except the final”.
