Spending on transfers in the summer market for the 2020-21 season has fallen by more than 65% compared to the previous. If the 2019-20 campaign broke a record with 1,301 million euros disbursed, in this austerity has caused spending on new players to have remained at 409.8 million euros.
And is that the economic crisis caused by coronavirus has made all the clubs tighten their belts and bet on the quarry footballers, transfers and even exchanges, as recommended by Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga, last April.
So, from a record spending season to another with one of the lowest figures in the last decade. The main market agitators have been Sevilla and Villarreal who, together with Barcelona and Atlético, are in the group of clubs that have spent the most. On the contrary, Real Madrid, habitual at the top of this ranking and that last summer was the one that disbursed the most money, has not allocated a euro to incorporations of footballers.
Barcelona has done it. The Barça club has been the one that has left the most money to bring footballers, with 124 million euros spent. It is followed by another of the greats, Atlético, who has ended up paying 92 million this summer, 56 of them in an Álvaro Morata that ended up on loan to Juventus.
Seville and Villarreal they have been the agitators of this summer market. The Seville sports department, with Monchi in front, has worked at full capacity thus incorporating great players from the Spanish League, such as Rakitic (Barcelona) or Óscar Rodríguez (Real Madrid), and from abroad, such as Suso (Milan), Idrissi (AZ Alkmaar) or Acuña (Sp. Portugal) with a total expenditure of 65.5 million euros.
Meanwhile, Villarreal starred in one of the bombs of the summer by taking over the services of two great footballers from their neighbor Valencia. Coquelin arrived at the Submarine for 6.5 million, while the until then captain of the team did so with the letter of freedom. Estupiñán, Rulli and Kubo are other players in which the yellow team has invested, with a final outlay of 32.9 million.
