LaLiga supports the clubs not to yield players to the CONMEBOL teams

LaLiga has issued a statement supporting the Spanish clubs and affirming that it will support them in the event that they do not want to yield their players to CONMEBOL teams. The conflict arose from FIFA's decision to increase the concentrations of the South American teams for two more days for the September and October breaks.

The employer's association chaired by Javier Tebas labels as “serious unilateral decision” that of FIFA and that “they have not attended to other solutions that were raised in the World Leagues Forum”. In this way, LaLiga has announced that it will support Spanish teams that refuse to assign players to CONMEBOL teams and that it will take legal measures: “LaLiga wants to communicate that it will support in all areas the decision of Spanish clubs not to release their players. belonging to the selections for the convocation of CONMEBOL, and will take the pertinent legal actions against this decision that affects the integrity of the competition by not allowing the availability of the players“In addition, he announces a meeting with the affected clubs in the coming days.

At the moment there are 25 players, belonging to 13 clubs between the First and Second Division, who would be affected by this FIFA measure. A number that could increase when the calls for Ecuador and Venezuela are known. “The Spanish association understands that the world calendar cannot and should not be modified in this way, especially when there are alternative solutions,” says LaLiga. And he adds that he already showed his discomfort to FIFA in the last forum of national competitions: “We show our discomfort at the lack of sensitivity towards the clubs on an issue such as the international calendar, which is set and agreed 4 years in advance and to which the national leagues have already been adopted taking into account the circumstances of COVID“.

A statement that comes after the Premier, which has also announced that it has reached an agreement with its teams not to let out players who have to travel to countries that the British government has classified as high risk. Which would mean a ten-day quarantine upon his return.

Iusport, a medium specialized in sports law, has revealed what are the possible consequences of not yielding players to the senior teams. Said players who are not loaned may not play for their clubs during the time they should be called up with their national teams or for the five days following the end of the return date.
