LaLiga met with the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) and the Higher Sports Council (CSD) to advance the eradication of hate in sport, within the framework of the project 'Combating hate speech in sport' co-financed by the Union European Union and the Council of Europe, according to a statement.
The objectives of the meeting, in which the Olympic athlete Aauri Lorena Bokesa Abia was present as ambassador of the 'Sport IS Respect' project, were to “identify the synergies” between the 'Combating hate speech in sport' project and said campaign. of the Council of Europe, in addition to LaLiga VS and “establishing next steps.”
“The project aims to combat hate speech in sport through technical assistance from the Council of Europe to the public authorities of some selected Member States and to sports associations to develop strategies with a human rights approach,” explained the entity in its statement.
The countries participating in the project are Germany, Spain, France, Greece, Italy and Montenegro. All of them enjoy assistance adapted to each territory, “involving all relevant interlocutors in the participating states.”
With this meeting with the Council of Europe and the Higher Sports Council, LaLiga progresses in its “commitment to collaborating with European and national authorities in the fight against hate in sport.” “LaLiga welcomed the review of the different international initiatives and the visual identity of the campaign with the aim of designing a joint campaign to raise awareness in society of collective responsibility in the objective of combating hate speech in sport,” he reported.
