LaLiga holds activities in refugee camps in Jordan

MADRID, 21 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

During the last week, the Za’atari and Azraq Refugee Camps (Jordan) hosted activities developed around the celebration of World Refugee Day, within the LaLiga | Za’atari & Azraq Social Project, according to a statement issued this Friday.

This initiative, launched in 2018 by the LaLiga Sports Projects department and its foundation, with the collaboration of AFDP Global, aims to “improve the quality of life of refugee children and young people, as well as promote the empowerment of women and men through their training in the sports field, using football as a tool to transmit the positive values of sport.

The activities program included different recreational and recreational shows. Likewise, the final qualifiers of the football championships that have taken place throughout the season have taken place, and in which more than 300 children have participated, divided into 16 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams, in the case of Za’atari; and 144 boys and girls divided into 8 male and 8 female teams in the tournament that took place in Azraq.

These sports competitions have had the collaboration of 18 LaLiga clubs, who have named the teams and donated their official kits to the participants. Furthermore, for the second consecutive year, a scoring system was applied in this league that not only takes into account the good sports performances of the participating boys, but also values good behavior and socio-educational learning.

“In this way, sportsmanship, respect for rivals or camaraderie are promoted, and intrinsically, coexistence, equality and tolerance among all the beneficiaries of the project,” LaLiga highlighted.

The different events held in Za’atari and Azraq had more than 1,200 participants, in a day to claim the rights of refugees. In addition, each beneficiary of the project received their corresponding participation medal, an official LaLiga ball and a bag with corporate gifts.

This season a total of 10 workshops and courses have been developed with 333 participants in both refugee camps, with both purely sports themes, based on LaLiga’s technical training methodology; as social and educational, focused on using football as a powerful tool for education in values.

“It is a great satisfaction to be able to finish another season of a very special project, since it has been possible to consolidate football as a tool for inclusion, coexistence and transmission of values in a very complicated environment. We will continue working to bring Azraq and Za’atari more opportunities and actions that help their populations improve their personal situation,” said Olga de la Fuente, director of the LaLiga Foundation.

For his part, David García, coordinator of technicians and methodology of the Sports Projects area of LaLiga, concluded that “thanks to this integrative project, the people who are part of it can face their daily lives in a more positive way.” “Almost 6 years after its birth, this league continues to make all its participants happy, it is the greatest achievement we can have and the best objective that we must maintain in the coming seasons,” he said.
