LaLiga celebrates the first anniversary of the project in Iraq with a visit to Baghdad and sets new challenges

MADRID, 30 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

LaLiga and the Iraq Football Federation (IFA) celebrated in Baghdad the success of the joint project for the growth of football in the country, which seeks to turn the Iraqi league into a leader in the Middle East region, according to a statement issued this Thursday by the employer.

And they intend to achieve this through the “professionalization of structures, development of quarries, sustainable management, digitalization and infrastructure”, among other measures.

Thus, the president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, met with the clubs at an event where they celebrated the creation of the new ‘Iraq Stars League’ with a conditional asymmetric calendar or the development of a solid grassroots football structure.

In addition, new challenges were announced, such as the digitalization of the Iraqi league or the modernization of the country’s infrastructure. The new headquarters of the ‘Iraq Stars League’ was also inaugurated, where its new offices will be located, with its own space for the LaLiga project.

During the visit, Tebas met with representatives of IFA, the Spanish Embassy in Iraq and the country’s Prime Minister’s office. In addition, he had special training with the clubs where “knowledge and developments were exchanged on the different aspects of the project and future challenges.”

Furthermore, in this final stretch of the season, just after the visit, activities continued to be carried out, such as a special training with 28 coaches from the youth teams of the clubs of the two professional divisions: ‘Iraq Stars League’ and the ‘Iraq Premier League’. ‘, which began on May 29 at the University of Baghdad.

“The objective of these training sessions is to bring the LaLiga Methodology and the training models of Spanish football closer to the different structures of grassroots football in the country, from the Federation to the clubs. Among the medium-term challenges, in fact, one of the most important is to promote training and competitive experiences in Spain with LaLiga and its clubs, both for teams and for the development of players,” the statement explained.

Nor is it neglecting “one of the pillars of LaLiga’s plan” in Iraq: “the construction of a solid grassroots football structure, with prolific quarries, talent development plans, lower category competitions and quality training for coaches.”

“We are very satisfied with how this comprehensive transformation project is developing, supported by LaLiga’s sustainable management model, which places emphasis on the solidity of development in the medium and long term. We believe that this approach is the way to convert a league that is a regional and even global benchmark, and is also a tool for social transformation,” said Tebas.

While Adnan Dirjal, president of IFA, welcomed the visit of the president of LaLiga to Baghdad, which “underlines the strength” of their collaboration and the “commitment to achieving significant milestones in the ‘Iraq Stars League’ competitions and in the ‘ Project Dream'”. “The visit of Tebas to inaugurate the new offices in Baghdad is a pioneering step that will bring many positive aspects to our football,” he concluded.
