LaLiga and Netflix come together to create the platform’s first sports docuseries in Spain

MADRID, 17 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –

LaLiga and Netflix come together to create the first sports docuseries produced by the platform in Spain, with the 2023-2024 season of the highest Spanish football competition as the protagonist and which will premiere next year, according to a statement from both entities.

Thus, LaLiga will become “the center of the first sports series that Netflix will produce in Spain.” The project, which will be in documentary style, is currently in the pre-production phase, and will focus on the 2023-2024 First Division competition. This new series will follow the trail of other Netflix sports productions such as ‘Formula 1: The emotion of the Grand Prix’ or ‘Break Point’.

“It will have exclusive access to the competition and will also search for the most personal stories of one of the most followed leagues in the world,” Netflix and LaLiga explained in their statement.

For the Spanish soccer association, being the protagonist of the first Netflix sports series in Spain is “a unique opportunity” to share the “excitement” of the competition and export it “beyond the fans.” “It is the opportunity for all our fans to see LaLiga from a totally different angle”, celebrated the executive general director of LaLiga, Óscar Mayo.

“At Netflix, we have always been committed to bringing essential series and movies to our subscribers around the world. We are very proud and excited to share this project with LaLiga, which represents an unprecedented opportunity to experience first-hand the emotion of one of the most exciting sports competitions on the planet”, stressed the director of Non-Fiction, Documentary Series and Entertainment Programs for Netflix in Spain, Álvaro Díaz.
