LaLiga and its Foundation brought together more than 800 people for World Refugee Day in the Za’atari Refugee Camp, in Jordan, as part of the LaLiga project | Za’atari Social Project, which has been underway since 2018, according to a statement issued this Monday by the employer’s association.
During the weekend of June 18 and 19, the days that determined the champions of the sports competitions framed in LaLiga | Za’atari Social Project, an initiative that depends on the LaLiga Sports Projects department and the LaLiga Foundation and in which AFDP Global (Association Football Development Program) collaborates.
The project was born in September 2018, and according to LaLiga, its objective is “to improve the quality of life of refugee boys, girls and young people, as well as the empowerment of women and men through their training in the field of sports, using football as a tool for transmitting the positive values of sport”.
In total, more than 800 people from the refugee camp, mostly boys and girls of Syrian origin, participated in a conference that included shows and sports games in order to achieve a holiday. Among other shows, medals and trophies were awarded to the sports champions of the league organized throughout the season.
More than 500 boys and girls play football as part of the LaLiga project | Za’atari Social Project in the U-16 and U-12 categories, both male and female. Players, coaches and referees have been instructed by LaLiga through courses based on LaLiga’s methodology and the LaLiga Foundation’s ‘Values to Win’ initiative.
This end-of-season day of the LaLiga project was also used to reward the winners of the soccer tournament organized by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), in which both LaLiga and its foundation collaborate. Now LaLiga | Za’atari Social Project will rest until September, when a new edition will start.
The director of the LaLiga Foundation, Olga de la Fuente, was very satisfied with the end of the season party. “The joy of the children of this refugee camp on a day as marked as today, in which we must continue to reinforce and remember the rights of refugees, is our greatest motivation to continue our mission of improving their quality of life. and continue providing them with tools and knowledge that help them to continue growing and enhancing their personal and professional qualities”, he declared.
In addition, the coordinator of Technical and Methodology of LaLiga, David García, celebrated being able to leave behind the problems derived from the pandemic. “During this season, and after two years with many restrictions due to the pandemic, more than 500 boys and girls, and more than 50 trainers, have been reunited within the framework of the project. A clear example of the power that the football as a tool for transmitting values that are serving them to empower them”, settled.
